Create courses with a CSV

If you would like to create courses in bulk, you can use a CSV. This is a great option if you have existing data, such as the completion of live training events, that you want to bring into the Edified system. Create your courses first, then upload your user completion data.

Start by going to your Manage course categories and courses page. This is how you will find the ID numbers assigned to your tenant categories.

Click on the tenant category where you want your course or courses to go. For this example, I clicked on my tenant site’s top category. I can then find the category ID in the URL that is specific to this category, as you can see here.

Now you can start constructing your CSV. The columns will include the course short and full names, the category ID, and the course’s start date. You can upload one course or multiple courses. Fill in the relevant information and be sure to save the file as a CSV. You can use this example CSV.

Now you’re ready to upload your course or courses. In this situation, you will NOT be clicking on the Create new course button that you use for manual course creation. Instead, you will click on the Upload courses tab that appears near the top of the page.

Use the Choose a file button or drag your file into the File field. You can leave the other options as the defaults. If you are ever updating existing courses, you can choose a different option for Upload mode under Import options, but for creating new courses, make sure Create new courses only, skip existing ones is selected.

Use the Preview button to make sure you don’t have any issues with your file. On this screen, you can choose additional options or leave the defaults. Click Upload courses when you’re ready.

After reviewing the summary of your upload, press Continue.

Your courses will now be available on your Manage course categories and courses page.
